Philip Yenawine and Alexa Miller introduce the practice of Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS) and explain how class discussions using the art-based pedagogical model support the development of critical thinking not just in the arts and humanities but also the sciences. VTS is composed of three distinct questions designed and phrased to encourage students/viewers to root their interpretation in visual evidence, building observational, argument building, and vocabulary skills.
